My annual tomato gleaning adventure could not have gone better, thanks to a rare rain event. A sudden downpour soaked Seattle with half an inch of rain in two hours early this morning, jeopardizing Seattle’s record for driest August ever.
This time of year if ripe tomatoes suck up that much water in such a short time they are in danger of failing. I’ll steal tomatoes from my secret spot regardless, but it’s good to know I’m rescuing some that will otherwise go to waste.
Shoutout to fan of the Substack Wallis, who has assured me that “gleaning” is a better descriptor than “stealing” when one is appropriating tomatoes that one did not grow.
Speaking of Substack - Nirvana WOK has been on here, as our official website, for six years. During that time Substack has never done anything to promote the Nirvana WOK website other than provide free hosting. I approve of that hands-off approach. Nirvana WOK will never go to a paid subscription tier and has never grown beyond 50 subscribers, which means Substack’s business model has failed in our case.
I also have done nothing to promote Nirvana WOK other than posting stories here. And I like it that way.
