Defacing Homelessness
A Seattle non-profit called Facing Homelessness that started as a photojournalism project has bit the dust.
Went to the Facing Homelessness website (don’t go!) and it’s full of arty, high resolution photos of homeless people looking into the camera. Their mission statement is full of platitudes and generalities that don’t make sense. “We tell stories and share photos of people who are experiencing homelessness with the simple purpose of showing the beauty in each person.”

Facing Homelessness also ran a “Window of Kindness” program where they would hand out socks and food and take pictures of the recipients.
While we’re on the topic of showing and not showing faces when documenting the sorrow and misery of people sleeping rough on the street - here’s a picture I took last week.
