Do I Want to Round Up for Charity? Hell No!
Seems like every transaction these days ends with a plea for donations.
Small donations do nothing to change the world. A government that prioritizes the well being of citizens over tax cuts for billionaires and endless war can change the world. We don’t have that.
This opinion brought to you by someone who knows a bit about our government … if only because C-SPAN has always been my favorite TV channel.

Update: One of our readers pointed out that “It’s worse than a meaningless small donation. When they add up to big money the corporation that is “processing” your donation takes the whole thing as a tax write off.
You aren’t donating to charity, you’re helping that corporation pay even less taxes.”
Good point. And it got me thinking about some of the the volunteers where I work who get paid by the large corporations that employ them whenever they volunteer. A tax write off for the corporations and extra cash for the volunteers - who end up making a higher hourly rate than the staffers. That’s certainly better than not having volunteers and it’s free labor for the organization. Fine.
