Goodbye to Seattle's Ark Lodge Cinemas
Looks like Ark Lodge Cinemas in the Columbia City neighborhood (and a stone’s throw from Nirvana Wok world headquarters) is going out of business, and asking for donations … again.
It’s sad to see a locally owned small business end. On the other hand - the owner is a bad businessman, the building is a firetrap and earthquake danger zone and they only show big budget corporate movies.
The Ark Lodge gofundme campaign has raised $25,000 but they are looking to get $250,000.
Do donors realize that this is a private business? This is not a non-profit that accepts donations so that they can continue doing good works for the community. It’s a poorly run movie theater located in an ancient building that needs a million bucks worth of work.
A local bagel place that is no longer with us started out with a crowdfunding campaign. Sort of irritating - you either have the money to open up a bagel place or you don’t. They didn’t.
Normally a for-profit business would ask for a loan from a bank if they needed help. It’s hard if not impossible to run a small business without a line of credit. You need to be financially successful, or be laundering money, or have a wealthy family with resources. Otherwise there is no business.
