Hands Across America
It dawned on me today that all these fentanyl smokers on the streets of Seattle are burning their hands and fingers.
People without serious drug problems might not know that heroin is out nowadays and mainlining with needles has also become second tier to smoking fentanyl. Injecting fentanyl does not always end well and addicts know that.
Fent is incredibly cheap and the high is more intense than smack but the high also doesn’t last as long. That means constantly chasing the dragon - lighting beneath aluminum foil to cook off a dose.
When you keep doing that all day long, day after day, you’re gonna damage your hands - plus also your brain and the rest of your body, especially your lungs.
The person in the photo here has hands like claws. My newfound awareness of fentanyl hand damage had me checking out people during my daily walk around the neighborhood, and the hands looked bad. Swelling, dark burns, no fingernails. Lots of sores and bleeding.
If course, it’s not unheard of for IV drug users to inject into their hands, which makes matters worse, if that’s possible.
