You know you have become bougie in your old age when you subscribe to a bespoke bagel delivery service. A friend of mine makes bagels at the facilities of a local church (in exchange for bagels) and then delivers them once a week to customers in Seattle and Tacoma. We get a half dozen every other week and they are unlike any other bagels available in Seattle which was, until recently, a bagel desert. The family loves them.
This week I made bagel sandwiches to give out. Buttered and toasted them, added salami, Swiss cheese, red onion, a pepperoni slice, pickles and mustard. I could have given out dozens of these as there were dozens of people on my usual donation route near Rainier Avenue. Tents and RVs are everywhere on the side streets nearby.
The total cost of this mission: $20 for the bagels and $10 for the other ingredients. An hour of my time would technically cost $21.70 - Seattle’s minimum wage, but I gave these out as I was running another errand. Five dollars per bagel.
One thing about bike deliveries is that you have to be careful to not roll up on people because sometimes they are easily startled.
