Long Beach Island Establishment Ignores Realities of Global Warming
Long Beach Township Mayor, editor of local newspaper are climate change deniers
In the June 26, 2024 edition of The Sandpaper, editor Jay Mann, in a lengthy piece entitled New Hurricane Data Just Doesn’t Match Warmist Storylines, plays down “fake hurricane news.” Mann claims that “hurricane numbers and intensities have been nearly the same for well over 100 years.” By any metric, that is a lie. His article opened with talk about how cool the weather was on LBI - over the previous weekend! Embarrassing and ridiculous.
Mann’s primary source for this story is Bjorn Lomborg - a controversial climate change denier.
The Mayor of Long Beach Township, Joseph Mancini, is also an active participant in climate change denialism. He recently spoke at an anti-wind turbine event sponsored by Save Long Beach Island, Inc. - an astroturf group funded by fossil fuel interests.
Their claim that offshore wind farms cause whale deaths is false. Save LBI’s logo has images of wind turbines, and a whale.
How can we not be reminded of the movie “Jaws” here? Where the powers that be in a New Jersey beach town ignore a murderous shark because they don’t want to hurt the bottom line of tourist season?
I don’t wish a hurricane on anyone, but if a weather disaster does occur on LBI, I hope these guys have to ride it out in a canoe.
