Let's Defund and then Abolish Girl Scout Cookies
Two Samoas® Girl Scout cookies contain 30% of the daily recommended serving of saturated fat. These are tiny half ounce cookies. They have more sugar and palm oil than wheat. The palm oil they use is RSPO certified which is for the most part facile marketing bullshit that doesn’t make saturated fat any healthier.
If this junk food ceased to exist wouldn’t we all be better off?
And why do the Girl Scouts need to raise money by selling cookies? If our oligarchs paid their fair share of taxes the government could fully fund the Girl Scouts and these kids could do something with their time that is more worthwhile than just selling boxes of unhealthy sugar snacks.
Book ‘Em, Dan Dan
Experimenting with a recipe for peanut-free Dan Dan noodles. Delivered a batch to a mutual aid group. Every Thursday they cook food, put it in insulated heat bags and distribute it, using a wagon, to hungry people. Also donated some socks and some shirts.

The mustard greens for this dish came from our tiny garden and included a gastropod. A reminder to always wash your greens and, in this case, cook them in a hot wok to at least 140 degrees!
Black Beans in Paradise
Bought a bag of fermented black beans from Mekong Rainier - my favorite neighborhood market. Soaked the beans twice and added them, along with the second batch of soaking water, to some stir fried oyster mushrooms. The kids loved it!
Makin’ Bacon
Made a batch of Kalua pork. Bought the pork belly at Mekong Rainier, didn’t marinate it, cooked it for five hours. Do not eat this regularly unless you are a Sumo wrestler who needs to put on weight. Serve with sticky rice and plenty of vegetables.
