Say No To Worms
Millions of people have seen the video of social media star Keith Lee at Belltown’s Fob Sushi eating a piece of salmon nigiri with what appears to be a worm in it, illustrating the perils of running a restaurant in the Internet age.
I am reminded of bringing home a piece of true cod from the fancy PCC organic market and finding a worm, visible through the plastic packaging. It wasn’t moving but it sure did squiggle after I put it in some vinegar.
I thought everybody knew the rule to not eat raw salmon. I guess more people know it now.
To be fair to the owners of Fob Sushi, their business model of selling high quality sushi for $15 a pound must not be an easy slog. And we’ll never really know if that was a worm or just a piece of fat flapping in the wind, since the alleged infested morsel is now in Keith Lee’s tummy.
Fob sushi’s two locations are still closed as I write this.
In other news, we served chum salmon last night. Certainly not sushi grade fish. The volunteers overcooked it, which is good.
I don’t ever want to see undercooked raw fish or especially chicken come out of our kitchen.
