Vanished Fremont
In 2003 a graffiti artist modified this sign in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood.
Upscale places going out of business as the rent rose, soon to be replaced by other upscale places.
Running a small business is a rough ride in this cruel corporate world.
Lots of stories here. Redhook — a pioneering (1981!) American craft beer startup with a charming history — was “gone” from the neighborhood at this point. Redhook was later acquired by beer conglomerate Anheuser-Busch (now known as AB InBev), which recently sold the brand to cannabis lifestyle company Tilray.
Gentrification marches on.
