Seattle reached almost 30 degrees last night which is about as cold as Seattle gets. Combine that temperature with damp conditions and you have a recipe for suffering and even death if you have no place to go.
The Misery
Sickest I’ve been in years lately with a cold/flu/something that I cannot shake. Luckily I have a warm place to live and a family to take care of me and adequate medical care. Imagine being out on the street and being ill too.
The King County Regional Homelessness Authority issued a Seattle cold weather shelter advisory through January 21. The overnight shelters they list include the Urban League Youth & Young Adults Shelter, but you need to be age 18-24 to qualify. The YMCA of Seattle King County: Angeline’s Day Center and Overnight Program is for single adult women only. The Salvation Army SODO Severe Weather Shelter — the kind of place where they make you pray before you can get in — is now open. Capacity - 35 people. There are thousands of homeless people sleeping rough in Seattle right now.

Here comes end of the catastrophic Biden administration. This racist, senile geriatric fraud created a drug war which saw a million people of color imprisoned for non-violent drug offenses. He enthusiastically promoted America’s violent foreign policy. Jello-Brain Biden spent half a century pushing a neoliberal agenda that destroys the lives of anyone who is not rich.
Genocide Joe Biden is without question one of the three worst Presidents of my lifetime - the other two being Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. It is unfortunate that this demented devil will never serve a day in prison. But what good would that do? He has no idea where the fuck he is.
Four years of Biden and homelessness has increased and the oligarchs are richer than ever. Been to a grocery store lately? Had a hospital visit? Still paying off a predatory student loan? How shameful is it to be living in the richest country in the history of humanity right now?
Girl Boss Genocide
Presidential press secretaries are by definition monsters hired to stand up before the media and the American people and tell lies on behalf of whichever war criminal is in office, but Karine Jean-Pierre took this position to a new low. At her final press briefing she told us that “I hope my presence at this podium has served as inspiration to many young girls out there.” I was always skeptical of the girl boss trend. Sure - women are discriminated against in the corporate world and need affirmative action in order to force corporate overlords to hire them for top positions. On the other hand - does it really matter if the CEO of, say, UnitedHealth Group or Exxon or any other purely evil institution is male or female?
Are there really any young girls out there who aspire to be a PR flack for mass murder?
Meritocracy for Some. Idiocracy for Others.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was interrupted by a “demonstrator” during his final press conference. The “demonstrator” was then dragged out of the room. That “demonstrator” was well-respected veteran journalist Sam Husseini.
If anything good has come out of the Biden administration it’s that the mainstream legacy media has lost whatever shred of credibility they might have once had. Not with me, because I’m an educated person, but with the few remaining news consumers who might have still been stupid enough to believe the media.
And the meritocracy? Butcher Blinken grew up in a building in New York that is so exclusive that if you have to ask how to get in you are never going to get in. Then, of course, he attended the most exclusive prep school, and Harvard. All it takes in this country is hard work and you too can pull yourself up by your bootstraps and rise to the top!
Ticky Tacky Tocky
As I write this the Supreme Court has approved the greatest act of State censorship since the McCarthy era and banned TikTok. The powers that be are truly afraid of losing the information war to media entities not controlled by American corporate elites. Amazingly, xiaohongshu.com, another Chinese app otherwise known as RedNote — a nod to Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book — has sprung out of nowhere and become incredibly popular. This fills me with joy during an otherwise bleak time. Millions of Americans and Chinese are now having fun exchanging information and jokes and recipes and Luigi memes on RedNote. It’s incredible to see Americans realize that everything they have been told about China is a lie and to see Chinese realize that everything they have been told about America is true. An ambulance ride is $2,000 in America? Wow, we feel sorry for you my friends. Break your hand in China and the hospital bill is $25? I’m moving to China! The world is wising up.
Trump Derangement Syndrome 2.0
Remember when Hillary Clinton perpetuated the lie that Putin somehow stole the election and that’s why she was defeated by a con artist game show host? And then the mainstream media (or at least Rachel Maddow) went with that narrative every night for four years? Well welcome back.
Who does not know at this point that every American President since Ronald Reagan has been the same? These creeps have been a motley cabal of anti-union, pro-corporate pro-austerity warmongering dipshits whose only priority is to cut taxes for the wealthy while shamelessly promoting a world-destroying capitalist agenda.
Although maybe Trump 2.0 will be different. He did, after all, just end over a year of genocidal slaughter in Palestine with one phone call - something that Genocide Joe could have done from day one. Consumers of NPR or the New York Times would have to read between the lines to figure that one out.
If you really think Trump 2.0 is going to be worse than Biden - and this would take great effort - all I can tell you is to stick with and support your friends and family in the next four years. And vote in local elections, preferably for candidates from a third party. A party that doesn’t exist yet because there is basically not a true left wing party in the United States.

Not that I'm disagreeing with many of your points, but the notion that salvation will come from an outside, "third-party" candidate is problematic. The Orange Shitgibbon, you may recall, emerged as an alternative voice ... and essentially took over what we used to call the Republican party. The GOP morphed into MAGA without a peep.
