The Summer plan is to make pizza using mostly matzo crackers, as I mentioned in an earlier post (Flour Tortilla Pizza Crust Fail).
Bought a case of matzo for this purpose and a Jewish family member mentioned that they thought I was boycotting products made in Israel. Truth be told I picked the cheapest case ($12.99) I could find at Safeway’s annual Passover products display without looking too carefully. Yehuda maztos “proudly baked in Jerusalem” were probably the wrong choice for someone who feels strongly that genocide is bad.
Judaism is an honorable religion that is thousands of years old. Zionism is a relatively recent invention and the experiment has now gone horribly wrong.
The Ludmir family started making Yehuda maztos in Safed in 1921 and moved operations to their current location in 1949, a year after the Nakba. Boycotters of Israeli products take note.
Mazto maker Streit’s was started in 1907 on the lower East Side of New York City.
Manischewitz got its start in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1888.
Did I mention that I love unleavened bread? Oyster crackers, saltines, matzo … I love it all!
